Proteomics and Metabolomics Workshop at CSIR-IGIB: Connecting Scientists and Exploring Future Collaboration

Wednesday - 30/09/2026 10:59

From 24 to 28 August 2026, a hands-on training workshop and scientific seminar on Proteomics and Metabolomics was held at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB), New Delhi, India. The program brought together approximately 20 scientists, lecturers, and researchers from universities and research institutions across Vietnam, including participants from Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa, and other localities.

The workshop focused on three major areas—Proteomics, Metabolomics, and Lipidomics—through a combination of theoretical lectures, scientific discussions, and practical training. Participants gained hands-on experience in sample preparation, mass spectrometry-based analytical workflows, and data processing and interpretation. The program also included visits to CSIR-IGIB’s laboratories and technology platforms, providing participants with a closer view of the Institute’s research infrastructure and multidisciplinary apprach to biomedical research.

A number of scientific presentations highlighted advanced research directions currently being pursued at CSIR-IGIB. Prof. Kausik Chakraborty presented research on protein folding, proteostasis, and translational regulation, while Dr. Swarnendu Bag discussed applications of proteomics and metabolomics in early detection, prognosis, and predictive biomarker discovery for cancers and metabolic disorders. Of particular interest was the presentation by Dr. Shantanu Sengupta on the Phenome India Project, which demonstrated the potential of integrating genomic, proteomic, metabolomic, phenotypic, and other biological datasets in large-scale population research. The project provides a valuable reference for the application of multi-omics approaches in public health research, biomarker discovery, disease prevention, and precision medicine. It also suggests potential directions for multidisciplinary research initiatives adapted to the biological characteristics and health needs of the Vietnamese population.

With strong capabilities in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, systems biology, and biomedical sciences, supported by multidisciplinary research teams and advanced analytical platforms, CSIR-IGIB offers significant potential for academic exchange and scientific cooperation. As the Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center continues to expand its international partnerships and strengthen its research capacity, CSIR-IGIB may serve as a promising partner across multiple areas, including joint research, researcher training and exchange, scientific workshops, access to advanced analytical technologies, and collaborative programs in proteomics, metabolomics, multi-omics, and biomedical biotechnology. Such cooperation could contribute to broadening the Center’s international research network and supporting the development of higher-level scientific and technological capabilities in the coming years.
